It Should Have Been a DGU: Chicago Rampage Edition

CHICAGO, March 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

The ISRA is once again calling upon Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to fire Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy . This latest call for McCarthy’s ouster comes after a mob of young thugs – estimated to be in the hundreds – swarmed the Magnificent Mile shopping district Saturday night and began beating dozens of innocent shoppers. This latest mob action appears to be the most serious in a string of events over the past two years involving gangs of youths randomly attacking shoppers on North Michigan Avenue . . .

Self-Defense Tip: Practice Walking Around With Your Long Gun

One of the many downsides of living in a blue (a.k.a., slave) state: most gun ranges don’t let you move and shoot. Sorry to sound like a broken gramaphone record, but if you’re not practicing moving and shooting you stand a greater chance of standing and dying in a violent attack. Yeah it’s that important. It’s no less important when using a long gun for self-defense. And there’s more to it than just moving and shooting; there’s moving to or away from what you might or might not be shooting. In other words, you need to learn to keep calm and carry on [click here for gratuitous link to thechive.com], dynamically. The video above offers carry styles. For those of us without access to open space and freedom, close the curtains and practice walking around your house or apartment with your long gun. So totally worth it.

After taking the Gunwerks Long Range University class last June, I subscribed to their YouTube channel. They recently uploaded a very cool video showing a quick trigger change and bedding job on a Remington 700 Sendero. Looks like an easy way to make a good rifle a lot better, especially at long range.

The Truth About the Universal Background Check Bill (Senate Bill S. 374)

Alabama-based estate planner Benjamin Jarrell writes: Senator Feinstein’s assault-weapon and magazine bans have been stripped from the United States Senate’s upcoming gun-control proposal, which is good news in and of…

“I said, ‘You take one more step and this gun goes off in the middle of your chest. Do what you want.’” Not much room for interpretation there. An 82-year-old Albany, OR homeowner, Jim Brazel, had been ripped off just three weeks earlier. So when Justin Russell broke into his shop in an outbuilding behind his home last week, Brazel was in no mood to screw around. According to nwcn.com, he threw on a robe and grabbed his .410. “He’s making a mistake to try the country people. Because 99 percent of us are all the same. We’re not afraid to shoot.” But Brazel didn’t, instead holding Russell at gunpoint until the local Deputy Dawg arrived while his wife stood behind him, holding a pick axe. Anyone else want to take a crack at robbing the Brazels again?

I’m Jewish, so I won’t be celebrating Jesus’ resurrection today. But I will be taking the time to consider the concept of rebirth. Not just because Spring is springing, threatening to turn my cherry tree into a psychedelic celebration of seasonal awakening. But also because now is the winter of our discontent (not to coin a phrase). Assault weapons bans, firearms registration, ammunition magazine capacity limits, mental health checks—liberty’s light continues to dim and flicker in blue states throughout the country. During these dark, difficult and dangerous days, Easter reminds us to cast our eyes backwards, to honor those who sacrificed themselves to free us from fear. Fear of tyrants. Fear of slavery. Fear of death itself. Their sacrifice informs our resolve. Our fortitude. Our stamina. We know that some things never die. And we thank God for that.
