The more things change…. Reuters reports: “A leading member of Germany’s Jewish community had to point to a gun he was carrying to ward off a young man shouting anti-Semetic abuse, the latest in a string of racist incidents in Berlin that has shocked Jews.” Shocked? Maybe, but probably not surprised. “Last month, one of the first rabbis ordained in Germany since the Holocaust, Daniel Alter, was beaten up on a Berlin street in front of his young daughter by four attackers, prompting a seminary to advise its students to avoid wearing skullcaps in public. …Anti-Semitic attacks are commonplace and policemen guard synagogues around the clock.”

      • Like NYC, Germany limits CCW to wealthy and influential citizens. The citizen in question is the general secretary of a large religious organization. Not exactly John Q. Public or his German/Hebrew equivalent.

        • And this is the point you extracted from the article? Ironic.

It isn’t hard to read between the lines of your response. Sounds like one of the rationalizations for the Nazi platform, regarding the “Jewish threat” – power, wealth, influence.

Maybe he was allowed to carry because of the confirmed threats to his life from people like you.

        • @Azzazzel

It would be the same if he was George Clooney, a member of parliament, or a Bishop. The Nazis would put me in a camp for my liaisons with Jewish women 😉 Seek your faux indignation elsewhere.

  1. The vicious cycle continues. And having failed to learn from the tragedies of the past we continue to tolerate and give voice to the intolerant 2 legged animals amongst us. To attack a person, physically or verbally because of their race or religion should be off the table. But ignorence prevails.

    • Well, “tolerate and give voice to . . . ” is what we do (theoretically) in this country. Something about free speech as articulated in the First Amendment. There are ignorant and intolerant on all sides. We got Nazis, KKK, Westboro Baptists, Black Panthers, and on and on. As the saying goes, I might disagree with what you say but I’ll defend your right to say it. Or something like that.

      • No, I won’t defend the right of hate mongers and their like to spew garbage. Either you’re part of the solution or you’re part of the problem. And i think racist and nazi idealogy has been proven to be not worthy of protection from decent people.

        • Just because someone believes in an ideology that most people don’t agree with doesn’t mean they should be put on a constitutional “no fly” list. Cherry picking who gets to be defended by the Bill of Rights and who doesn’t is akin to anti-gunner tactics.

Take our matt for example. Sometimes he says things we see as racist and all though I don’t agree with what he says, I don’t want to deny him of his right to share his opinions. His beliefs are no more or less important than yours or mine. They’re just words on paper or thoughts in our heads. He is just as protected under the 1st amendment as you, I, and every other American citizen. If you don’t like what someone has to say, then change the channel, walk away, don’t read it , etc.

        • I’m not sure if you noticed but this country was founded on racism. Ever wonder what happened to all the native americans who owned this land before us? Our ancestors ethnically cleasened them. Keep that in mind next time you sing the pledge of alegence at a sports game, or say god bless america.

        • My ancestors didn’t legally immigrate to this country until the 1920’s. Nobody in my extended family is in any way related to that time period. Even if I did have ancestors who were in some way connected to the conquest of what is now the USA, I wouldn’t care. I was not alive then, and am in no way responsible for what a bunch of people did before my time. I’ll be as damn proud or disappointed with my country as I want based on how I see it through my own eyes today; not by what happened in the past.

        • Tell me one country that wasn’t formed in violence and exploitation. The people of that country can have the right to pass judgement on the less perfect countries.

        • I’ve read the 1sr amendment and in theory I agree with it. But some of the garbage that gets protected by 1a is just that, garbage.

  2. At least the police are guarding against the attacks instead of perpetrating them. I have been seeing stories like this off and on at least since 9/11, and I wonder how much more of it we don’t hear about. Afterall it’s a very uncomfortable subject for western elites on many levels.

  3. My family has been in America since the 1740s but we have a fairly strong German heritage (the whole area we come from in Texas does) news like this makes me ashamed to be part German. At least the government is on the right side this time and I hope any Jew who is threatened is allowed a concealed firearm.

    • At least the government is on the right side this time and I hope any Jew who is threatenedlaw-abiding citizen is allowed a concealed firearm.

      FTFY.

    • you shouldnt ashamed to be part german. the holocaust has nothing to do with you.

what a ridiculous statement. defeatism at its finest.

  4. Isn’t hate speech banned in Germany, particularly if it involves references to the Nazis? This is an illustration of why bans are ineffective. Without a police state to control all actions, some will violate the ban, whether we’re talking about speech or about possessing a firearm. I’ll take our American approach, thanks. Say what you want to me, but know that I’ll defend myself if you try to cause me actual harm.

  5. The Jews of Germany have nothing to fear. If push comes to shove, I’m sure that the government will find a nice camp for them, where they’ll be safe.

Think it can’t happen? Think again.

    • Given current political climates it’s by orders of magnitude more likely that the US opens up camps again, this time for Muslims than Germany opening camps for Jews. Oh wait, we already have that, it’s just outsourced offshore.

      • It’s a shame, too, I’d rather those muslims be rotting in a field or mountain pass somewhere with a few ounces of lead in them. Kill ’em, send the remains back packed in bacon grease, and bomb the resulting funerals/protests.

    • The growing muslim population in Europe is a threat to Jews there. And there is nothing to be done about that threat.

  6. Having spent 5 yrs in West Germany( 1983-1988) I noticed there was a lot of anti whatever riots going on( take your pick: Jewish,Americans,Turks, etc) but it was and I think still is illegal to possess or use in any form anything related to or having to do with Nazi’s and/or Nazi propoganda!!
Was kind of funny in a way because most of the rioters were younger 20’s and teens it seemed like! There were older adults but they only seemed to come around for the serious stuff( think Baader Mienhoff Group, etc).
It is ignorant and counter productive if we really think about it to be racist or prejudice against anyone or any one group but such is life! Like it was stated above: I may not like what you say but I will defend your right to say it!! As long as you cause no physical harm!!
If it gets physical then it becomes a whole different issue!!!
We all know we will never see an actual Utopian world like the anti’s and others seem to think we need or can get by following their rules and scriptures but being able to actually practice and follow the constitutional rights as awarded us by that great document we can do many different things to make life a little easier for those who need it!! As we all know there are a thousand different opinions on what rights various amendments grant us but some people just aren’t happy unless they can meddle in the affairs of others to the point of being able to tell you when, where and how and how much it will cost you just to eat an breathe their air and food!!!

    Just an opinion!!

    • Don’t forget Speedracer5050 … the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights do not award, grant, or convey rights. They simply state some of the many rights that we as humans have — and tell government to keep their grubby hands off.

  7. There are always enough political/religious/racial-ethnic extremists and haters, regardless of their percent in a given population, to call for common sense carrying of guns for self-defense. Even if the threat is relatively small today we know from history that things can quickly escalate. Never again.

      • I don’t read Arabic so I don’t know what to call you. Was your grandfather Jordanian, Palistianian or what? Was he killed in war?

      • As a nation I condemn the British Empire for their history of worldwide oppressive imperialist politics. As for individuals I know there are good and bad people probably everywhere and in most large organizations. Sorry to read how your grandfather died. I’m not much familiar with the story though I believe the Irgun called in the threat before the bombs went off, unfortunately the warning call or threat was not believed.

        • I detest cloaking violence in moralistic, parochial, and humanistic terms. Your tribe killed my kin in a violent power struggle. End of story. Save the talk of “oppression” for guilty white liberals.

I’ll continue to mourn a man I never met and you’ll continue high-fiving your tribe’s hired killers. I’m still high-fiving the men at Rourke’s drift for chrissakes. The world keeps on spinning…

  8. This was not a legitimate DGU. Even the description we have of what the Jew-hater was saying and doing did not represent lethal threat. I would imagine the description was slightly enhanced to make the criminal brandishing seem more justified.

Like many (most) DGUs this one was really a criminal act disguised and supported by all you pro-gun nuts.

    • “Like many (most) DGUs this one was really a criminal act disguised and supported by all you pro-gun nuts.”
Still spouting off presumed facts because they sound good, eh?

    • Yes Mikeybananas, He should have waited until the man had killed him first before defending himself. You’re such a desperate putz.
