What’s Wrong With This Picture: Teach Your Children Well Edition by Robert Farago | Jul 04, 2012 | 19 comments facebook twitter linkedin email [HTML1] comments Stubaby says: July 4, 2012 at 09:33 Safety officer at end of video is holding handgun prop by the barrel and swinging it around. Must be a new safety tip. Reply LeftShooter says: July 4, 2012 at 09:34 What’s wrong with this picture? Before telling what I think, let me say that I applaud the efforts of this small south Georgia town to educate the children about gun safety. I wish all towns and cities in America would do the same. Time & money well spent. In the closing seconds of the video I saw the presenter mishandle the gun (dummy gun or not) by holding it by the barrel and covering himself repeatedly. I also never consider a semiauto cleared until the magazine is first dropped and then set into slide lock, if the gun has one. I don’t believe that gun had the magazine removed while he was showing it. If it did, my mistake. Reply Tommy Knocker says: July 4, 2012 at 09:59 Best is simple with small kids. Eddie Eagle program does it right for kids. Stop Don’t touch Leave the area Tell an adult Reply Don says: July 4, 2012 at 11:28 I love eddie eagle. The whole program is brilliantly concieved. After using a shotgun to help demonstrate the 4 rules, he placed the butt on his foot, both hands on top of the barrel and rested his chin on them while another instructor spoke. Reply 230therapy says: July 4, 2012 at 10:12 The opening picture looked like there were condoms to the right of the airsoft pistol. I know they were stickers showing a badge, but they looked like condoms at first glance. Reply JACA says: July 4, 2012 at 10:21 An empty gun is an empty gun. Period. Empty guns don’t magically blow up, or shoot people. And contrary to what some might tell you, unloaded guns have NEVER shot or killed anyone. Unchecked loaded guns have. Reply Not Too Eloquent says: July 4, 2012 at 11:52 Plus they needed a hotter female representative. Reply Ironsite says: July 4, 2012 at 10:51 Definitely a good effort from my home state. Those kids now know what probably 99% of adults don’t. Reply John Fritz says: July 4, 2012 at 10:52 “… Guns can be found just about anywhere. …” Jeez, the only place I ever find guns is at the LGS shortly after I’ve given someone a large amount of my after-tax income. Reply Pro-Liberty says: July 4, 2012 at 12:22 I found a Browning BAR in .270 on the side of a major road in Auburn, Alabama once. Reply Chas says: July 4, 2012 at 13:50 Anywhere??? I know what I’m gonna be doing the rest of the day…. lookin’ for ’em!!! Reply Silver says: July 4, 2012 at 11:32 I’d rather have an innocent mishandling of a prop at a valuable education program than have these kids be subject to the tyrannical brainwashing of CA, Chicago, or NJ. Reply Mr Bob says: July 4, 2012 at 17:06 True, but he still needs his butt kicked. Reply Sanchanim says: July 4, 2012 at 12:22 Of course this safety course needs to be followed up by practical shooting skills. Start off with a 22 LR. By High School they should all be able to compete in USPSA events. I would be willing to bet gun crime amongst kids would drop dramatically. And I hate to say this because it will sound bad, but if there is gun violence, at least the kids might hit their targets and thus not hit innocent bystanders. I know that sounds horrible. Reply Ralph says: July 4, 2012 at 20:17 Sonofagun. George “The Animal” Steele teaches firearms safety. Who knew.
