ATF Death Watch 149: False and Misleading Information

“Throughout the course of the congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, the Department has consistently denied that any senior level officials were provided information about the tactics used in Operation Fast and Furious. The wiretap applications obtained by the Committee show such statements made by senior Department officials regarding the wiretaps to be false and misleading…Having seen the wiretap applications, we now know that the information coming from the Department has been misleading. That must stop.” – excerpt from a June 5 letter from Congressman Darrell Issa to Attorney General Eric Holder. Click here for the full letter.

Wow. Wish I could get away with explicitly lying to Congress. Oh wait, I’m not an Obama appointee.

  3. avatar GS650G says:

Eric can’t wait until after the election so he can get his pardon. I think late September they should drop the hammer on him just in time for an October surprise, just in case anyone is still on the fence.

I am beginning to like Congressman Darrell Issa, and I don’t say that about many politicians. I realize he has some blemishes in his past, but to his credit, he is hanging on to this like a junk yard dog after a bone.

    1. avatar Sanchanim says:

And he is from California no less!
We need more people like him, maybe a Ted Cruz or two.

    2. avatar theaton says:

Joe, you really like a man who makes deadlines and then lets them pass with no consequences only to repeat again and again? I call that man a coward! Issa has lost the battle. There will be no contempt citation nor any other consequences to Holder.

@ nonnamous, what a great quote from Claire Wolfe. My sentiments exactly.

  6. avatar JustSayin says:

Obama’s appointment & the performance of Eric Holder in that position, is starting to damage the “brand” of democrat .. as more of his actions and non-responsivness to accountability is exposed over time to even more of the masses .. damage control coming soon .. ?

To me it seemed in the letter that he called out Holder for lying numberous times. But then after saying Holder should stop, on the last page it sounds like Congress just wants Holder to hold the senior level officials whose names are on the wiretap applications and be done with it.

I also didn’t see any mention that Congress wanted the rest of the subpenaed documents, in fact on the third page they seem to buy the bull they were told that the DoJ can’t comply with the subpena because it would reveal documents regarding Fast and Furious that might jeopardize other investigations. There also was no mention of their previous, unfulfilled threat to hold him in contempt for lying and withholding documents even though they proved he was lying.

    1. avatar Sanchanim says:

Hang tight this is one letter of I am sure many. I also got that impression, but I think overall the reasons for not giving over documentation is BS. Diane Fienstine sees the most secret things and no one ever told her it is just need to know. I think they are trying to drag this out until after November.

      1. avatar theaton says:

Yep, those for or five strongly worded letters before this one weren’t enough. I’m sure ten or twenty more strongly worded letters will change things. It’s no wonder we find ourselves in the position that Ms. Wolfe describes.

  8. avatar Roadrunner says:

If all the Justice Department’s secrecy was to avoid compromising ongoing F&F prosecutions, you’d think there’d be a few more F&F prosections.

  10. avatar Ralph says:

“I don’t give a shit what happens. I want you all to stonewall it, let them plead the Fifth Amendment, cover up or anything else, if it’ll save it, save this plan. That’s the whole point. We’re going to protect our people if we can.”

Nixon to Haldeman. Or was it Obama to Holder?

    1. avatar KWAL says:

Knowing what actually happened to Nixon is the only event that keeps me hoping for some justice in this instance. That was just a burglary cover up. This case is so much worse it’s hard to believe it’s lasted this long. Politicians must have studied Nixon’s mistakes in getting caught long and hard to avoid prosecution this effectively.

  11. avatar LongPurple says:

    O. K. We get to see the letter about the wiretap applications that show the upper management in DOJ knew what F&F was about, and what “reckless tactics” (gun-walking) were used, in detail.
When do we get to see those “applications for wiretaps” for ourselves?

    1. avatar theaton says:

We will see them when we put down the beer, turn off the television and demand in the strongest terms possible that our elected officials resttrain themselves to the confines of the Constitution of the United States. Said another way, NEVER.

      1. avatar LongPurple says:

I was hoping it would be closer to October 2012.
