Well, we tried. In fact, according to Heizer Defense‘s PR peeps, we “hounded” the gunmaker in our attempts to secure first crack at their aerospace industry-inspired Derringer. I mean, DoubleTap Tactical Pocket Pistol. While Heizer promised America’s most popular firearms blog (that’s us) one of the first testing and evaluation samples, they declined our offer to do a quick scoot-and-shoot at an NRA-convenient St. Louis firearms facility. Meanwhile, anti-pre-climactically, we learn that Heizer will be unveiling a new line up of DoubteTap accessories in the Show Me State (how ironic is that?). Jay what do we have for today’s—I mean tomorrow’s contestants? Well Monty, steel yourself. So to speak. ‘Cause here’s the full official and complete press release (minus the pics which are coming later) . . .

“The new accessory line includes the DoubleTap™ Barrel Conversion Kits. Each kit contains one DoubleTap barrel along with a 2-round Heizer Loading Device and a 6-round Heizer Storage Device in an attractive packaging. The conversion kits are available in 9mm or .45 ACP, ported or non-ported. MSRP is $249.00 for non-ported and $319.00 for ported kits.

The Heizer Loading Device and Cartridge Holder for .45 ACP or 9mm The set includes one 2-round loading device for quick tactical reloads and one 6-round storage device for carrying 6-spare rounds. MSRP is $10.00.

For travelling and range use, Heizer is offering a Pelican Case, Model 1170, with custom cutout foam interior to hold one DoubleTap, one spare barrel, one Heizer Loading Device and one Heizer Storage Device.  This Pelican case is waterproof, lockable and comes with a lifetime guaranty.  The case is airline approved in checked luggage.  Available in black or OD for $70.00

Heizer is proud to offer DeSantis® leather holsters made exclusively for the DoubleTap. The Heizer Ankle Holster is modeled after the famous DeSantis “Die Hard” design, available in right or left hand versions in quality black leather with a thumb-break.  MSRP is $77.00.

Another exclusive offering by DeSantis for Heizer is the Belt-holster specifically designed to fit a DoubleTap in finely crafted brown leather. Available in right or left hand models with an MSRP of $57.00. The DeSantis Belt Clip holster, also designed to fit the DoubleTap, fits comfortably inside the pants and is attached with a spring loaded metal clip that fits to most belts. Available in black leather only and in right or left hand versions for $25.00.

Finally, the DeSantis Pocket Holster for the DoubleTap; using a hook and loop material on the outside of the holster keeps the holster in the pocket when drawing the weapon. A slick interior finish helps the weapon release from the holster and prevents the weapon from “printing” in pants and will not wear out pants with extensive usage. The DeSantis Pocket Holster is ambidextrous and available in black nylon only for $20.00.

For the tactically minded, no other company offers the best in tactical nylon than FirstSpear™. FirstSpear has designed several items specifically for the DoubleTap and available nowhere else but at Heizer. First offering is a MOLLE Deployment Pouch. This small, black nylon zippered pouch attaches to any belt or vest. Quick pull, dual zippers open up a compartment with an elastic holster allowing immediate DoubleTap access. An extra zippered compartment holds a spare barrel, the Heizer Storage Devices and extra ammo. MSRP for the MOLLE Deployment Pouch is $55.00.

Another exclusive FirstSpear™ product is the black nylon Ankle Holster. This comfortable, all-day wearable rig is very lightweight, weather resistant and has an adjustable stretch-cord retention system. Available in right or left hand models for $50.00. Another FirstSpear product is their Pocket Holster made from lightweight, breathable nylon that allows easy weapon release even from tight jean pockets. An ambidextrous model is available in black nylon for only $15.00.

The final FirstSpear product made exclusively for Heizer is the Pistol Lanyard which attaches to the DoubleTap lanyard loop on the butt of the weapon providing a secure nylon retention device to the operator that wants to keep his weapon during extreme conditions. The lanyard can be attached to the belt or vest and the design allows for a full arm’s length pistol draw. MSRP $20.00.

  1. Never mind that sh!t. I want to see video of Nick’s and/or Robert’s face the first time they touch off a .45 auto, non-ported titanium DoubleTap. Pics of the imprint in said shooter(s) palm are optional.

  2. We’ve been waiting for months! If they call us hounds, can we call them welshers? (No offense to actual sons and daughters of Cymru intended.)

  3. My guess – commercial failure. I don’t see these flying off the shelves and I doubt the majority of people who are clamoring about them are going to toss down $320 for this thing when there are better options out there for the same price / function / size.

    • +1 this.

Kahr makes great guns that are the same size and have 6+1 for a 9, and 5+1 for a .45. Same for an LC9, only slightly bigger with a 7+1 capacity.

  4. I would very much like to get one of those guns, but I absolutely refuse to fork over the $800MSRP to get one (or $600 for the aluminum version) when other perfectly fine and fully concealable pistols are available for just as much.

  5. I believe I have said this before . . . if you want a derringer, then buy a Bond Arms Derringer. 16 Barrels and 22 different caliber combinations available. I, myself, own the Century 2000 model. The standard barrel shoots a .410 shotgun shell or .45LC. I have been meaning to get their .357/38 special barrel and extended grips, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

One of the best made firearms I currently own.

Heizer Double Tap – Meh – Whatever.

  6. I don’t understand the appeal of this particular gun. Other than it’s novelty factor.

Why not an LC9? Yes, I’m aware of the caliber difference.

  7. I want to know what leather holster maker is coming out with the wallet holster ? You know it’s a wallet to put the Dbl Tap in it. This wallet has a trigger hole on the outside so when you pull your wallet your right index finger falls on the trigger. So when some punk tries to stick you up and demands your wallet. You politely pull it out &start to hand it to a stick up guy ……..BOOM BOOM end of problem! You really should only have two major cards & Drivers lic., in your wallet and of cour se the the Dbk Tap in it. Just a few small bills in my front right pocket this is for the bums and pole dancers! LOL The real roll in the other left rear pocket. When you pull that fat wallet out the thief will thinks his boat came in. As all his greedy attention goes to grabbing the wallet you simply point and dbl Tap two 45 slugs in him that will sit him on his ass! Only to find out it’s his last stick up and your there to stamp his ticket home with a 45 cal Dbl stamp! Heh Heh Heh
