Remember our Caracal Amber Alert? It just paid off. The UAE-made 9mm with the weird sights was one of our favorite guns from the whole SHOT Show, but we couldn’t find one anywhere. After casting a veritable message in a bottle onto the wide seas of the internet, my message found its recipient and I am now admiring the very object of my desire.

And thinking up clever ways to test and film it for you. Stay tuned.

  1. Are the Saudi owners of the Caracal C 9mm manufacturer sending profits to funding al-Qaeda? OK, I know that question can’t be answered. “If” we are to believe those government and mass media reports wealthy Saudis sent oil revenue to fund the terrorists that attacked America. Just saying.

      • Oh duh. That part went right over my head since I had it in my head (I thought from the initial article on this gun) that they were based in Saudi Arabia.

Note to self: stop posting comments when I am past my bed time.

    • LOL! Caracal pistols are made in Germany these days, and the company is owned by a group based in the UAE, as the original post rightly points out. So let me type this slowly – UAE is the United Arab Emirates. It is NOT Saudi Arabia. Just like Canada is not the U S of A. The owners of Caracal also own Gebruder Merkel in Germany. the UAE is a prominent US ally and it offers the US Navy the use of its territory to monitor Iran. It is also the ONLY Gulf Co-operation Council country that allows Israeli passport holders to enter its territory.

  2. Thank you Chris and TTAG!

Some point of view shooting through a camera’s viewfinder would be an awesome way for us to check out those sights. Maybe find some nice examples on YT and ping the posters for advice?

Excited for whatever you deliver on this.

    • I picked up an HD helmet cam at the SHOT Show, and jerry-rigged it to the bill of an old baseball cap. It rides about 3 inches above my line of sight and turns wherever my head turns; I’m hoping it will give us some extremely cool POV camera angles. As soon as it stops pouring rain around here, that is.

  3. Saudis can’t be in bed with Al Qaida cause the Saudis are in bed with us. One of the reasons Al qaida was formed. Unless you are suggesting it’s a big orgy! Somebody call Alex Jones and Jesse Ventura. We’ve got a conspiracy folks

  4. Need to see how/if those crazy sights help at all. In “combat” and target shooting distances, on and off the clock. Man, I wish I could just play with the Caracals for a day… Jealous is me.

    • By the looks of this gun vis a vis the Steyr, I don’t know if it’s a one up or a comparison of the same gun!

  5. I had a chance to shoot one of these at the Caracal shooting range in Abu Dhabi. It wasn’t a bad gun, but for my money, I’d rather have another Glock or M&P.

  6. I am very excited to see this review and the action videos. I have been a long time Glock fan and love Herr Gaston’s design. It’s my understanding that both the Steyr M9 series and the Caracal C9 pistols were designed by a former Glock engineer. I could be wrong on this, if anyone has the full story I would love to hear it.
From the photos I have seen and the Gun Rag reviews in the major pubs, it looks to be a promising design. The Quick Site system seems like it could work well. I’m especially interested to see if they have refined the standard Glock trigger mechanism. Who says you can’t improve on perfection?
The aesthetics certainly aren’t for everyone. I love the look of the pistol. Great lines, awesome grip, really “futuristic” in a fun way. I’ll be eagerly awaiting this review. Please include any info on availability/importation. I’m seriously considering picking one of these up.

  7. Seen some other reviews and Youtube videos.
Looks like a “futuristic” polymer 9 with a couple gimmicks, not sure if that’s enough to separate it from the pack or not. With the poly9 market the way it is now, there sure is a lot of competition.
    Looking forward to your review/opinion.
