It’s too early for a Hamlet reference!
I learned to shoot using a “hasty sling,” and can’t imagine shooting a WW2 battle rifle without one. Shooting with a sling seems to have been a bit neglected recently, but a good sling turns a shooter’s whole body into a more stable shooting platform.
I never found that a WW II type sling added much stability to the off-hand position, but for prone, I really like it.
