Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day: Anonymous Holland, MI Cop

Remember, all you crazy-ass, wild-eyed bitter clingers. No matter what you think the second amendment says, the only people who are qualified to handle dangerous firearms are the military and police. Only they have the hundreds of hours of training and skills required to handle guns. The average citizen simply doesn’t possess the ability and can’t be trusted to safely use– Oh. Wait . . .

A Holland, Michigan cop whose name – wait for it – was not released, shot himself in the hand this week. While holstering his gun. During a training exercise. mlive.com, has the minimum necessary:

(Capt. Robert Buursma) said that police were conducting quarterly training in the gun range in the basement at police headquarters on West Eighth Street.

The officer was treated at Holland Hospital and released. No other officers were hurt.
The injured officer will return to duty once his injury heals, Buursma said.

Police were conducting low-light drills under supervision of a certified instructor before the officer was injured. He had successfully completed his tasks before he was shot while trying to put his firearm in the holster.

Maybe they should have had the lights on, no? It’s evidently harder to remember the four rules in the dark.

To be fair, most officers we know wouldn’t be the ones to suggest leaving guns solely to the soldiers and cops. No, it takes big city (mostly northeastern) chiefs of police to generate truly deep thoughts like that. They tend to march right along with our betters, the elitists in the illustrious gun grabber community, who have such low opinions of the abilities of John and Jane Q. Public to handle the tools necessary to protect themselves.

And that’s why we feel more than a touch of guilty schandenfreude when one of the boys in blue demonstrates how wrongheaded that only-military-and-cops thinking is. So for now, let’s give credit where credit is due. The injured, un-named Holland officer will be off duty for a while recuperating. And that should give him plenty of time to appreciate the distinction he’s earned as our Saturday edition IGOTD.

“He successfully completed his tasks before he was shot while trying to put his firearm in the holster.” did he really successfully complete his task if he now has a hole in his hand? And why is it that when a civilian has an accidental discharge the media portrays them as a clown, but when one of our boys in blue ( who I have the up most respect for) they word it as if to say they were shot in the line of duty. He shot himself, he wasn’t shot. But I am just preaching to the quior. Alas….

I just loooove the passive voice…
Do J-skool ass-hats who write this crap understand what it does to their credibility? Or do they just not care anymore?

They probably are just copying-and-pasting whatever was in the press release.

Oh, great. Whatever happened to shooting oneself in the foot? Did that go out of style with Hopalong Cassidy?

    1. avatar karlb says:

Is that why he was called “Hopalong”?

Also, Ralph, I am sorry that Wisconsin has decided not to enforce the four hour of training part of the new CCW law, and are even working to remove it, since you had mentioned you might move to the Badger/beer/cheese/bratwurst state to teach the classes.

Yeah, that Second Commandment thing can really mess up a guy’s income.

That Second Commandment?? I don’t get it.

Second Commandment, Second Amendment, Potato, Potahto.

No, JJ- wrong Moses. He’s talking about the 2nd commandment of John MOSES Browning.

I thought that was: Thou shalt always carry my creations cocked-and-locked….
