Gun Sales Surge Continues: September NICS Checks Up 14%

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has released their tally of adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks for September 2011. The number rose 14 percent over last September (878,345  vs. 770,310). That makes it 16 straight month of year-on-year increase in NICS checks. FYI: the NSSF deletes permit-related background checks where possible (e.g., Kentucky, Iowa and Utah). While the NICS numbers aren’t all directly related to firearms sales, it’s clear that reports of the death of the U.S. firearms industry are premature. Statmeisters should click here for a breakdown of unadjusted NICS checks from January 2011 to date, broken down by state.

As far as I can tell, the FBI links to reports are broken and keep popping you back to their home page

Don’t know if it got fixed or was never broken, but the link works for me. Firefox 7.0.1 for reference.
