According to allaboutcabo.com, there are three reasons why gringos should holiday in Cabo San Lucas: the resort area boasts 360 days of sunny weather; it’s a short flight from the United States or Canada; and Cabo is “one of the safest destinations in Mexico.” Yes, well, full marks to the copy writer. Cabo is safer than, say, Ciudad Juárez (home of the world’s highest murder rate). But, as the above video illustrates, Cabo is not immune to the narco-terrorist conflagration that is destroying Mexico. borderlandbeat.com reports that the “resort city was the scene of a confrontation between gunmen and authorities during the afternoon hours of Saturday. This Saturday evening the Milenio news agency reported that 12 gunmen armed with assault weapons had barricaded themselves in the Soriana big box store located in the mall . . .

Ready for the latest in must-have safety equipment? DSM (Don’t Shoot Me) Safety Products has introduced a tactical pageant sash system designed to be carried and worn by off-duty cops in active shooter situations. The goal is admirable. Eliminate “blue on blue” shootings in high-stress, chaotic situations when IDing the guy in front of you holding the gun is a split-second, life or death decision for a responding uniformed officer. It certainly can’t hurt and, to appropriate one of the gun controllers’ favorite rationales, if it saves even one life…

Question of the Day: Black Powder. What’s Up With That?

[HTML1]

Roy’s already run through a bunch of black powder and conical ammo for his Thompson Center Fire Storm review. Please sir, can I have some more? Harumph. What is it with these black powder enthusiasts? Are they nostalgia freaks connecting with a historical anachronism in an obtuse retro kind of way (à la Harley Davidson owners)? Or are they just making it difficult for themselves because modern guns are too damn easy? I don’t get it. What’s the appeal?

Note to NSSF: It’s an “Assault Rifle”. Deal With It

Eric over Gunmart Blog caused quite a kerfuffle when he called time on the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) campaign to remove the term “assault rifle” from the firearms fraternity’s lexicon. Eric mocked (ever-so-politely)…

marinecorpstimes.com sounds the death knell for ye olde M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) light (relatively speaking) machine gun. Incoming! The Marines have signed the final contract with Heckler & Koch to replace all their belt-fed SAWs with H&K’s magazine-fed M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). The gun goes to all Marine rifle squads and light armored reconnaissance scout sections; every four-man fire team will have an IAR, with three per squad, 28 per company and up to 4,476 across the Corps. “The decision closes a chapter on a decade-long debate concerning whether the Corps should drop the firepower available in the belt-fed Squad Automatic Weapon in favor of a lighter, more accurate automatic rifle.” Or not, as TTAG commentators are sure to demonstrate. Thirty-round mags vs. 200? 5.56 vs. 7.62? We report, they’ve decided.
