Timothean Religion Shuns U.S. Gun Owners by Robert Farago | Aug 12, 2011 | 19 comments facebook twitter linkedin email comments Chris Dumm says: August 12, 2011 at 14:55 Thanks, Timothy. How’s that working for you? Reply Charles says: August 12, 2011 at 15:14 “We do not kill, not even in self defense.” This is a common misunderstanding of the commandment, which forbids murder, not killing of any kind. Reply Leo Atrox says: August 12, 2011 at 15:15 “Unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam who claim they follow the 10 Commandments, but think the commandment “do not kill” means something different than it does.” Uh … Well it does say something different than “do not kill,” if that’s what he’s saying it says. The majority of translations of the Hebrew, Muslim, and Christian Bibles use the word “murder” rather than kill, and religious scholars almost universally agree that the text is clearly refers to the unjust killing (murder) of another person. If you’re going to take the translation “thou shalt not kill” and say “this exact wording is what we must live by” … Well, you’re going to starve to death, because that text does not have a clause limiting it’s application only to people. So, thou shalt not kill anything, whether person, beast, or plant. Have fun with that. Reply 40&2000 says: August 12, 2011 at 18:19 Yes he is. Reply James Felix says: August 12, 2011 at 15:42 “We do not kill, not even in self defense.” He left off the logical end of that sentence. “…which means that we only enjoy any safety at all because other people stand ready to kill on our behalf. That we so greatly benefit from their works won’t impact our smug sense of moral superiority though.” Reply ankle says: August 12, 2011 at 16:54 +1 Reply Ralph says: August 12, 2011 at 15:46 “We do not kill, not even in self defense.” Good to know. Reply John Robert Mallernee says: August 12, 2011 at 22:01 Brethren: Here’s what JESUS CHRIST commanded in Luke 22:36 – – – , “Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” In Matthew 10:34, our Lord advises us – – – , “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” In the Book of Mormon, we read in Alma 46:11-14 – – – , ” And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the chief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions, he was angry with Amalickiah. And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it — In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children — and he fastened it upon the end of a pole. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land — 14 For thus were all the true believers of Christ, who belonged to the church of God, called by those who did not belong to the church.” In other words, we live in a violent and wicked society, so we are COMMANDED to arm ourselves and to defend our families and our liberty. Who, is what I want to know. At first I though Ralph, but then momentarily losing his sense of humor, Ralph took the guy seriously enough to question the self-defense thing. So, who is he?
