James McMurty’s Choctaw Bingo… from 3:98 to about 5:02 in the song, the best firearm related content in any piece of music I’ve heard.

  2. avatar John Fritz says:

How about “Bible and a Gun” by Jason and the Scorchers or “21 guns” by Green Day. Two of my favs.

There’s a zillion of them. The best? Tough to choose.

  3. avatar John Fritz says:

Ooh! I forgot “68 Guns” by The Alarm. Rockin’.

  4. avatar Ralph says:

The Yin and Yang of gun songs: “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Don’t Take Your Guns to Town.”

  5. avatar Weer'd Beard says:

    .32-20 Blues by Robert Johnson

  6. A few favorites from my iPod:

AC/DC – For Those About to Rock We Salute You (canons are guns, too)
Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot (based on the public suicide of Pennsylvania state treasurer Budd Dwyer in 1987)
Sting – I Hung My Head (a murder ballad)
Shinedown – .45 (banned by MTV for the words, “I’m starring down the barrel of a .45”)
Def Leppard – Billy’s Got a Gun (man on the lamb song)
Aerosmith – Janie’s Got a Gun (abused girl defends self with a gun)
Stone Temple Pilots – Silvergun Superman (song about jealousy “Superman with a silver gun”)

    1. Oh, and how could I leave out:

Poe – Angry Johnny (scorned woman: “Want to blow you… away”)
Iron Maiden – Trooper (no explanation necessary)
Queensryche – Best I Can (child disabled by shooting self after finding hidden handgun in home)
U2 – Bullet the Blue Sky (protest of US intervention in El Salvador’s civil war)
Queensryche – Operation Mindcrime (entire album about a hitman for a revolutionary terror cell)
Def Leppard – Gods of War (protest song – clips of Reagan and Thatcher speeches mixed over miscellaneous gun and war sounds)
Ratt – Wanted Man (about a gunfighter – probably a metaphor for something else, if you know what I mean)
Saliva – Click Click Boom (censored by Clear Channel until lyrics re-recorded “Click Click Pull”)
Nirvana – Come As You Are (“No I dont have a gun” — actually, he did)

  8. avatar JOE MATAFOME says:

Johnny Cash’s Delia is real good.

  9. avatar Mike says:

How about “I Like Guns” by Steve Lee?

  10. avatar Grant says:

Maybe not the best of all times but for the visual picture one gets from the lyrics makes me smile. Rodney Atkins and “Cleaning This Gun”

  11. avatar Gunner442 says:

Nobody has mentione Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun”…..”bullets fly like rain…”
    or

Alice in Chains “Rooster” (Jerry Cantrel’s(lead guitarist) Dad was 101st ABN in the ‘Nam)….Walkin tall machine fun man…..the bullets scream at me from nowhere…got my pills against mosquito death…

    1. avatar Gunner442 says:

      fat fingered…
      Hendrix should be mentioned

Alice in Chains should be Walkin tall machine Gun man…

  12. avatar Mogg says:

How about “Roland the headless thompson gunner” By Warren Zevon ?
    Or “Guns” by DI ?

  13. avatar Yankee Gun Nuts says:

I’d have to go with either Lynnard Skynnard’s “Give Me Back My Bullets” or Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust”, with an honorable mention for The Beatles’ “Happiness is a Warm Gun”

  14. avatar Heather says:

I must agree with “Gimme back my bullets”, GREAT tune!! But ive gotta throw in “Saturday night special” for ive unfortunately seen more harm than good in my years, and it’s simply a kickass song~

  15. “Big Iron” performed by Marty Robbins many years ago. I also like Jimmie Rodgers performing “Frankie and Johny.” “Frankie drew back her kimono, she took out her little .44, then rootie toot toot, three time she shot, right through that hardwood door!”

  16. avatar Gay_Cynic says:

    Come now….

Nobody has thought of “They were having a sale at the gun store” by Leslie Fish, yet?

    For shame!!

  17. avatar TTACer says:

    16 shells from a .30-06

The great, though abstruse, Tom Waits. He shouts out a Winchester in “Cold Cold Ground” as well.
