TTAG commentator Bob H clocked my lever love in this morning’s post announcing Marlin’s new small-caliber plinkers and served-up a link to this, this, cannon. In case you didn’t know it, Bob H is a funny guy. To wit: his comment at wallsofthecity.net about the Big Horn Armory Model 89 rifle. “I think you are overlooking at least one use (other than zombie apocalypse, of course) what happens if you are attacked by 6-7 cape buffalo at once?” Given that the $2k Model 89 “only” chambers seven .500 Smith & Wesson cartridges, I reckon Mr. H assumes that anyone shouldering this bad boy is a crack shot, capable of handling Howitzer-class recoil. (“The pistol-grip buttstock has a one-inch recoil-taming Pachmayr Decelerator pad.”) Anyway, ‘Ole ’89 has completely derailed my quest for a snub-nosed S&W .500, and set me wondering what I’d do with so much damn buffalo meat.
