Gun Cleared in Accidental Shooting

Here’s an update on TTAG’s Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day for August 24 from charlotte.news14.com.

Police say no charges will be filed against a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who’s [sic] gun was involved in an accidental shooting last month. Winsthon [sic] Mercedes owned the gun a 3-year-old used to accidentally shoot off his thumb outside a Gastonia ABC store Aug. 20.

Mercedes is the child’s stepfather and the firearm was his personal weapon, not his service weapon. He was in the store at the time.

Mercedes was placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting. There’s no word on when he’ll return to work.
