If you look in the back of a random Crown Vic police cruiser, chances are you’ll find a beat-up Remington 870 shotgun riding rear (rear riding shotgun?) After a 90 some-odd-year hiatus, the stalwart arms maker is getting back into the 1911 market. John M. Browning designed the original 1911—a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated handgun chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge—to take out the Kaiser. The new Remington version is going after the mid-to-low end 1911 market, squaring up against the Springfield Armory GI and Taurus 1911. The Remington 1911 R1 will be unveiled at the 139th National Rifle Association Annual Meetings in Charlotte, North Carolina.
